Koryu

Although the exact date of the origin of the Koryu School is unknown, the oldest known pictured Koryu flower arrangement is from a text published in 1769 during the Minwa period.  The founder of the Koryu School was Ishi-ken Sofu.  Four Koryu schools formed shortly thereafter and they all share Ishi-ken Sofu as the founder of their schools.  These Koryu schools also share the same seika homes.  Koryu Shotoh-kai and Koryu Sho-oh kai are two of the early schools.

The Koryu School’s initial arrangement style was seika.  Koryu students also study nageire and moribana along with seika.  The school’s headquarters encourages the study of gendaika, which is a contemporary style of flower arrangement .
