Hua-Yuan

This Ikebana school was founded in 1976 by Julia Yang.  She bases the philosophy of her school on the 7 fundamental principles of Chinese painting.  They are as follows:

1.  Relationship and unity with nature

2.  Depth and purity

3.  Awareness of balance

4.  Assessment of depth

5.  Coordination and relationships of the whole arrangement

6.  Coordination of color

7.  Rhythm and vitality

Flower arranging in China is at least as old as any classic scroll painting that survives today.  It has been historically recorded in the art of paintings and is kept flourishing through schools like the Hua-Yuan school.  The arrangement styles of this school are free, although if a classic vase is being used it is accompanied by a wood base.  The headmistress believes that the arranger should be allowed to follow his or her creative and artistic expressions, keeping in mind the 7 fundamental principles of Chinese painting.
